COMPETITIVE JUDGED TRAIL RIDE – – SUNDAY, August 28th, 2016.
Check-in starts at 7:00 a.m. Ride will start at 8:00 a.m. (Riders’ meeting for anyone who wants to participate will be held at approximately 7:30 a.m.)
Foxworthy Ranch. 9701 McCourtney Road, Lincoln.
Please DO NOT bring dogs.
Located right across the road from Camp Far West Lake – South Shore which is the Lincoln side. The driveway to the ranch is 1 mile to the east from the Camp Far West Dam (silver bridge) and about 4/10’s of a mile to the west from Camp Far West Lake South Shore Entrance (blue gate). In other words, the ranch property is located right between them . . . and you won’t be able to see anything from the road but rolling hills and about a million trees!
The Competitive Judged Trail Ride will consist of a trail ride with trail obstacles along the way (10-12 obstacles). Obstacles are natural, or simulate naturally occurring conditions (including urban), for the horse and rider to negotiate. The ride consists of obstacles and situations people might encounter on a trail ride. A course is designed using the natural obstacles that already exist on a particular trail such as walking over logs, opening a gate, or maneuvering through a creek. In riding, you may also encounter obstacles such as birthday parties, family BBQ’s, volleyball games, and mountain bikes . . . these are considered “natural” obstacles as well. Each obstacle will test the rider’s knowledge and the horse’s capabilities. Riders are judged on their skills and abilities to guide their horses through a natural obstacle course with an emphasis on calmness and safety. This trail ride is meant to be fun and enjoyable for everyone. This is not a timed event, but casual in nature. Riders may be given a time limit to ride through a particular obstacle so that riders behind them don’t get held back. As long as safety and common sense are kept in mind, everyone will have a good time.
Each obstacle will have its own judge who will individually score each horse/rider. At the conclusion of the ride, the scores from each individual judge will be tabulated per each horse/rider. Prizes and/or jackpot money will be awarded to the high places per each age division.
This ride is absolutely open to everyone and is a fun, leisurely trail ride (won’t be a long trail ride . . . and barefoot horses will be okay). The trail will be easy and should not be a problem for young horses, old horses, young riders, or older riders.
Horse show rules are not used at this event. Safety and common sense will be number one priority for our ride. Any attire normally worn for trail riding is accepted. Enclosed footwear is required (no sandals or bare feet), boots are recommended. Riding helmets are not mandatory but riders are encouraged to wear them. Any type of tack may be used — a saddle (Western, English, or Australian) and a bridle or a hackamore is a must.
Small groups of riders will start the ride every 15 minutes – earlier you start, earlier you finish. You can ride with any group of people you desire (judged, all age divisions, best friends, families, etc.). First group will be sent out at approximately 9:00 a.m.
FIVE SEPARATE AGE DIVISIONS: 9 years and under, 10 to 13 years, 14 to 17 years, 18 to 45 years, and 46 years and over.
Prizes awarded separately per each age division.
